ERIC CARLE INSPIRED PAINTINGS ON DISPLAY
Recently, local art teachers, Tracey
Salvatore and Alyssa Grosso from Aaron Decker Elementary
School in Butler went to a book signing of wee-known
author/illustrator Eric Carle. Mr. Carle just released
his latest book called, The Artist Who Painted a Blue
Horse! Both teachers were excited to bring the new
book back to share with their students because the story is
based on the real artist Marc Franz. According to Mrs.
Salvatore, "We love using children's literature in the art
room to create a link between art and language. Eric
Carle's books are among our favorites. We just
couldn't wait to share this new story with our
Kindergarteners!" After hearing the story and being
inspired by carle's beautiful collaged illustrations, the
Kindergarteners worked together to paint large replicas of
the animals in the story. Miss Grosso then had a
second grade class complete the paintings by addingtextural
paint techniques in the style of Mr. Carle. The
colorful animals were created to be exhibited at Butler
Library. As a gift to the Butler Library, Mrs.
Salvatore and Miss Grosso donated a signed copy of Eric
Carle's book for all to enjoy!
