Winter Story Time

 

Winter Story Time will begin the week of Monday, January 9, 2012 and will continue through Monday, March 19, 2012.

 

Spring Story Time will begin on Monday, April 16, 2012.

 

Please scroll down for more information about all of our Children's Programs & Special Events.

 

Story Time classes are limited to 15 children, so please call or visit the library to reserve your child's place.  Parents should remain in the library at all times while the programs are running.  Thank you for your help!  During inclement weather, please call the library.

Junior Book Club            Mondays at 5:00 pm

This new children's program for beginner readers is fundamental and lots of fun!  We will be reading a story together and talking about it along with doing activities that relate to the book.  A book will be given to each child who participates in the Junior Book Club.  All programs are free of charge however you must call or visit the Library to reserve your place, as space is limited.  Please Note:  Junior Book Club and Kids Book Club time changes:  February 13, March 5, and March 12 (Check Children's Special Events below).

THERAPY DOG READING PROGRAM

RECOMMENDED FOR KIDS IN

1ST & 2ND GRADE

Tuesdays from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

February 7 & 21 and March 6 & 20

This program is geared toward beginner readers in first and second grade or any child who wishes to practice reading aloud.  Come meet "Snuggles" and her owner Martha Dodd.  "Snuggles" is a friendly, cuddly, well mannered Saluki mix.  Read her the story of your choice.  This program encourages children to read in a relaxing pressure-free environment to a charming and loving dog.  Sign up for your child's 15 minute session with "Snuggles."  All programs are free of charge.  Please call or visit to reserve your place.

FOR KIDS AGES 6 - 12

From 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

This will be an interactive creative arts program.  "Art Kids Rule" will be here to provide a fun-filled evening to learn about the artist Jim Dine and to create a Valentine's Day card using his art techniques.  All programs are free of charge and pre-registration is required.  This class is limited to 20 children, so please call or visit the library to reserve your child's place.  Parents should remain in the library at all times while this program is running.  Thank you for your help.

MOVE AND GROOVE

FOR KIDS AGES 4 - 6

From 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm

When school is out for mid-winter break, younger Elementary Schhol age children can join us for an afternoon of dancing incorporating elements of jazz, Hip Hop and Creative movement.  All programs are free of charge and pre-registration is required.  This class is limited to 12 children, so please call or visit the library to reserve your child's place.  Parents should remain in the library at all times while this program is running.  Thank you for your help.
 

HIP HOP JAZZ CLASS

FOR KIDS AGES 7 - 9

From 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

When school is out for mid-winter break, Dance Instructor Michele Theiler will lead older kids in learning new Jazz inspired Hip Hop dance moves.  All programs are free of charge and pre-registration is required.  This class is limited to 12 children, so please call or visit the library to reserve your child's place.  Parents should remain in the library at all times while this program is running.  Thank you for your help.
 

DR. SEUSS STORY TIME AND CRAFT

FOR KIDS AGES 5 - 8

From 5:00 pm - 5:45 pm

During Read Across America, which is on Dr. Seuss's birthday, come to the library for Dr. Seuss Day on Monday, March 5, for a special Story Time from 5:00 pm - 5:45 pm.  Listen to several Dr. Seuss stories and complete a small craft.  All programs are free of charge and pre-registration is required.  This class is limited to 15 children, so please call or visit the library to reserve your child's place.  Parents should remain in the library at all times while this program is running.  Thank you for your help.

BOARD GAME MANIA IS ON!

FOR KIDS AGES 8 - 13

Monday, March 12

From 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

During Come join us for a night of "gaming" on Monday, March 12, and enjoy playing board games.  Bring your favorite board game and be ready to teach a few others to follow the rules of the game and play the game with you.  All programs are free of charge and pre-registration is required.  This class is limited to 15 children ages 8 - 13, so please call or visit the library to reserve your child's place.  Parents should remain in the library at all times while this program is running.  Thank you for your help!

PRE-SCHOOL/TODDLER DANCE

FOR CHILDREN AGES 2 1/2 - 4 YEARS

LET'S MAKE SLIME!

Make squishy non-toxic "goo" that hardens in your hands when you squeeze it, but flows like liquid when you pour it.  IT'S SLIME!!  All programs are free of charge and pre-registration is required.  This class is limited to 15 children ages 7 - 12, so please call or visit the library to reserve your child's place.  Parents should remain in the library at all times while this program is running.  Thank you for your help.

     Do you or a friend have Legos your children no longer use that you could donate to the Childrens' Services at the Butler Library?  If so, would you kindly drop them off at the Circulation Desk at your convenience?

     Also if you have any games that are in good condition with all of the pieces, we would gladly accept them as well for our Children's Room.
