Library Policies


Become a Member

 

Butler residents who are 16 and over can request a library card.  Come to the Circulation Desk with proof of residency (e.g.: driver's license, phone bill, rent receipt, etc.) and apply.

Youngsters under 16 can apply for a card with their parents' or guardians' permission and signature.

Your Butler Public Library card is honored in the entire Morris county (M.A.I.N.) library group, as well as the over 150 participating libraries in the NJ State Library system (www.njstatelib.org) in northern New Jersey.

Periodicals

 

Back issues of magazines may be loaned for two weeks.  For newspapers and current magazine issues, come in, relax and read in a comfy chair.

Fines

All loans are free of charge.  If your materials are overdue you will be charged 10 cents a day, except for DVDs and VHS tapes which are fined at $1.00 per day.

Renewals

You may renew Butler Library materials for the length of the original loan, except for those items that have been reserved for other patrons.  Sorry we can no longer renew videos over the phone.  To renew your materials online please click CATALOG.

Reserves

If you would like an item from the library collection that is already out on loan, we can place a hold on the item or select CATALOG  to place a hold on the item via your home computer.  You will need to log in with your library card number and PIN number (usually the last four digits of your phone number).  The Library will call you when it is ready for pick up.  Due to high demand, reserved books need to be picked up within three business days.

Inter-Library Loans

Should you want material that is not available at any Morris County Library, we can obtain it for you from another library.  Assuming availability, we will call you when it arrives.

Computer Access

We have internet access and Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point on all computers for public use.

Computer Use Policy

Please sign up at the Circulation Desk before using a computer.  Your first and last name must be listed on the sign up sheet. 

Between 10:00 am - 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, there is no session limit for computer use.  However, when another patron is waiting to use the computer, the session is limited to 30 minutes.

Between 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday - Thursday, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Friday and    10:00 am - 3:00 pm on Saturday, Computer sessions are limited to two 30 minute sessions per day.

If additional time is needed to complete important computer related tasks, please let us know and we will try to accommodate your needs.

Parents or legal guardians of minor children are solely responsible for the Internet use and behavior of the children in their care.  The Library cannot assume this responsibility.  Children under the age of 10 will need to work with an adult on any library computer.

The library reserves the right to take appropriate action to insure compliance with this policy.
