Solar Eclipses Across America

Saturday, October 14, 2023: Mark Your Calendar!

On October 14, 2023, the Moon will pass directly between the Earth and the Sun.  This annular eclipse will be visible within a roughly 125-mile-wide path from Oregon to Texas and on into Mexico, Central America, and South America.

In our area:  October 14, 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse:  Our area of the country will only see a partial eclipse. The Butler LIbrary has 500 glasses to give out to our patrons for the Otober 14, 2023 eclipse.  We are asking if you receive the glasses to keep them in a safe place until April 24, 2024, for the second eclipse which will be a full eclipse in our area.  We will have 1,500 glasses to give out per family once we post it on our website for the April 24, 2023 eclipse. (First come, first serve)  Please make a case for them and protect the glasses from any scratches.  If they scratch, you must put them in the garbage and not use them.

Clck on the picture above or below for more information.

We very much hope that you will emphasize, as you give out glasses in 2023, that people need to keep them safe and undamaged for 2024. Tell them that you were nice enough to put both eclipses in the same school year, so they should be able to keep their glasses safe for that period of time too. (And yes, by all means have them make glasses cases.)
