Igloo Take & Make Craft
When:
Ages:
An igloo (sometimes spelled iglu) is a temporary winter home used by the Canadian or Greenland Inuit made from snow.
Watch these videos and answer simple questions on Google Forms before picking up the craft.
All participants need to sign up on Google Forms in order to participate.  Contact Ms. Arlene if you have any questions.

Bedtime Math Challenge
When:  Ten Weeks:  January, February, March
Ages:  Wee Ones to 10 years
Are you interested in participating in a math challenge for the winter?  Each week is a math problem for Wee Ones,  K – 2, and Grades: 3- 5.  Answer the questions each week using the google form link and choose the question for your age group.  When the 10 weeks are over, there will be a raffle using google forms.  The more weeks you participate, the better your chances are of winning a prize.

S.T.E.M. Marble Race
Pick up Materials at the Library to complete this project
Materials Needed:  Cups, duct tape, play dough, marble
For grades 3 – 6 only
Fill out Google Forms
Find a piece of cardboard for a base.  Create a Marble raceway with cups and play dough. Begin the raceway using 2 cups.

 

 

Winter Reading BINGO Challenge
When: January 4 – February 26.
Ages:  up to age 8.
Print out a Winter READING BINGO Challenge card, or pick one up at the Library.  Complete a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally and color in the squares.  When your BINGO Challenge is complete, bring it into the library or drop it off in the BOOK DROP outside the Library.  Register for the program on Google Forms in order to participate.    If you complete the BINGO Reading Challenge and hand in the card, you will be put into a raffle for a chance to win a prize. 

 

S.T.E.M. Index Card Challenge
When:  January 11 –  25
For grades 3 – 6 only
Materials Needed:  Index card (provided), scissors (your own)
Do you think you can fit your entire body through a 3 x 5 index card?  Start by folding your index card in half. Then cut in zigzags. Register on Google Forms and then come to the Library between January 11 and January 23 to pick up there index cards. (In case of errors) Once you figure out this challenge, take a picture of yourself stepping through the file card and email  your picture to Ms. Arlene at: arlene.walk@butlerlibrary.org. There is a raffle for a chance to win a prize at the end of this challenge for anyone who participates.  Good Luck.

 

 

S.T.E.M. LEGO Snowflake Challenge
When:  February 1 – February 26
Ages: 7 – 12 years
Challenge directions:  Separate your LEGO collection into white bricks and any other white LEGO pieces only.  If you have a base plate, use it for this challenge, if not use a flat surface to create a snowflake using as many white bricks and other white LEGO pieces as possible.  Let Ms. Arlene know how many bricks you used, and take a picture of it and email the picture to Ms. Arlene at:  arlene.walk@butlerlibrary.org.   After you have created the snowflake, fill out the Google Form to be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a prize.

S.T.E.M. Robot circuitry

Materials Needed: Robot, copper tape, coin cell battery, LED light, tape

S.T.E.M.  Take & Make Circle Painting
For ages 2 – 7 only
Materials needed:  Cup, paper for painting, paper plate for paint (supplied), and your own paint.  Fill out the google forms in order to register for this program. This activity is limited to 36 children.
Directions:  Dip the cup into the paint, then carefully stamp the paper with the cup with the paint on the rim. Dip the cup into the paint again, then stamp the paper again.  Before you stamp the the paper, you need to dip the cup into the paint.
